Last month the Youth Support Trust (YST) combined their efforts to get more kids involved in sport with sports giants Adidas, the result being a nationwide plan called AdiStars. The plan will reward sustained activity in any sports and is hoped to become fully functional before the London Olympic and Paralympic Games in summer 2012.
Its successful launch occurred in September, with an appearance by England and Liverpool FC Captain Steven Gerrard and Paralympic bronze medallist John McFall, to a Liverpool school. Pupils of St Margaret's Church of England High School were evidently inspired by their hero as they posed for photographs with Gerrard. Gerrard showed them it wasn't all about football as he took part in a game of basketball before encouraging youngsters wishing to become top athletes themselves to "work hard, make sacrifices and be dedicated" but most importantly to "enjoy sport."
AdiStars taps into the gaming culture popular with 13 to 19 year olds by allowing children to complete and post new challenges online. Small rewards such as virtual badges and personalised messages will be given for every mission passed, which could range to anything from weight-lifting and ice hockey to simple running or football. By the end of the process they are expected to have advanced their five powers of speed, strength, stamina, suppleness and skill.
Once all missions have been completed youngsters will be able to enter into a competition to win some amazing prizes. The most exciting of which include a sprint lesson with Olympic gold medallist Christine Ohurougu or a football class taken at their school by Steven Gerrard himself. The top prize involves the winner being flown to Los Angeles to meet top footballer David Beckham. Even small achievements will be rewarded under the plan so youngsters do not lose interest, including virtual badges and personalised messages from sports celebrities. Log onto

The plan is set to continue for years to come as thousands of youngsters are selected to be AdiStars Ambassadors.
