Why pay a premium to make international calls to friends, loved ones or colleagues? Using traditional methods is no longer the best option because there are more cost effective alternatives available. Over a decade ago it was only possible to telephone people who lived abroad through the main telephone landlines providers such as BT and NTL. Because of the limited choice available they charged a significant amount of money per minute to make calls abroad. Thankfully, today the situation has changed and there are many different providers and options available to help you make cheap international calls.
The first option that you may wish to consider is a phone card. There are many shops that offer international telephone cards which allow you to make calls at a cheaper cost per minute. Like most regular phone cards you can purchase cards for a specified face value, these tend to range from 5.00 to 20.00.
Most of these cards are the same size as a credit card and should fit easily in your wallet or purse. This will allow you to make future telephone calls if you do not use up all of the credits when you make your first phone call. Each time you use the card the fee for your phone call will be debited and the credit can be used in the future. Sometimes people do not have the time to find a shop and purchase a card. These people may find an instant online service more convenient to make cheap international calls.
The other and potentially more convenient option to consider which will allow you to make cheap international calls is a low cost access numbers service. This is a service which reroutes your phone call to a cheaper telephone provider without any disturbance to your call. Most of these companies promote their services through websites on the Internet. This service is much more flexible than phone cards because you can make phone calls from a land line or mobile phone. The service requires you to dial a specified telephone number for each country which once it has been dialed will re-route your call to a voice over IP (VOIP) telephone line.
This means that your call will be made through Internet based technology such as a fiber optic cable rather than a traditional telephone cable. This technology can handle many more phone calls at once and because of these economies of scale it means that service provides can offer significantly cheaper prices with some being as low as 1.5 pence per minute. Next time you want to phone abroad log onto the Internet and find the most appropriate low cost access number for the country that you wish to call to help you save money.
