The glitz and glamour of Hollywood. How else can we describe the lifestyle of the rich and famous with their fame, riches and sprawling California homes? Such houses are the epitome of grand living with the spacious kitchens and living room, high ceilings, big bedrooms with walk-in closets, bathrooms with Jacuzzi and sometimes three stories accented with a grand staircase.

If you live in a house like this, decorating can be a challenge. Such a big space equals lots of work, isn't it? The good news is, not exactly. Filling every nook and crook of the house with furniture and decorations is not necessary. The important thing is proper placement of the furnishings to draw attention or highlight a space.

Utilize the storage you have. Big kitchens have cabinets and drawers that can blow your mind away...or not. The anxiety can strike if you have more drawers available than actual kitchen utensils. The good thing with more storage is the no hassle of keeping your things in order. You can easily keep your kitchen equipment without worrying about space.

The spacious living room can be decorated with big furniture, placed away from the walls but still in the boundary of the furniture set's area rug. This way, the living room will still look cozy despite its large size. An area rug with a geometric pattern is ideal for a living room with big windows. As a centerpiece, an area rug with a bold color or an attractive design is perfect.

Modern homes often have a number of bathrooms, which means that the one nearest to the living or dining rooms can be specifically for use by guests. It can therefore be stocked and decorated accordingly.

The dining room is another main attraction in the house. Big dining rooms in particular have an immediate sense of elegance. The long dining table, high ceiling, high-backed chairs, chandelier, etc., give the room an air reserved for formal functions. If you wish to stress this ambiance, use an area rug with a dark color or an intricate design for formality. Otherwise, if you want the dining room to be cheery and friendly, have an area rug in a brighter color. Either way, your dining room will feel inviting with an area rug on the floor.

Bedrooms are personal spaces, therefore decorating to suit the owner's style and taste is perfectly okay. It's usual to reflect one's personality in adorning the bedroom and one essential item to have is the area rug. It adds quality to the interior but also gives more warmth to the place of utter relaxation.

The entrance of course is an imposing area for such a big house. Why not make it more welcoming with an area rug, flowers and plants to soften the space? A California home may be mansion in state, but it doesn't have to be cold and aloof.
