Gold is a real gift in every sense of the word. Giving gold jewelry or any other precious stone is reserved only for those who are truly special in our lives. To show a sense of luxury, plated gold or imitation stones can be afforded by most people to give as gifts or favors or if they are in bulk, crystal favors are being given instead. It is probably true when they say that great things come in small packages. A small piece of jewelry can cost thousand to millions of dollars, and for some more rare stones, they are indeed priceless.

Gold is indeed expensive for a number of reasons. From the mining field to the advertising and packaging and insurance, cost will pack a pound of cost before it reaches your anticipating hands.

It all starts with mining companies focusing on a specific area that their engineers have identified to have gold density. Certain permits and environmental compliance certificates are to be secured and the process can take a long time and it already costs operational expense. Manpower is a great factor in the cost of getting gold and other precious stones. Because mining areas are hectares upon hectares of land, mining companies maximize the time they invest by having many people cover the entire area as they search for gold.

Contrary to what some people believe, safety is a great concern when it comes to mining. Handling explosives, the not so conducive work environment, and other health hazards in handling chemicals are all factors that mining companies deal with. To extract the gold, different expensive chemicals are used and experts are being called in so the stones will not be damaged when handled inappropriately. Insuring the stones is a great concern as well. Gold is being traded around the world in forms of bar and the physical transfer can be truly costly.

The stone in itself will undergo several stages before it becomes the beautiful stone that people see now. Because of its rarity, gold and other stones are somehow reserved only for those who have the fortune to own them. Money probably does make the world go round and gold is somehow considered money in its purest form. Gold will always symbolize power and fortune, so when giving gold jewelry, reserve it for those who deserve them as these heirlooms will stand the test of time and be passed along generations after generations.
