There are cases when Eczema rashes are not responsive to any variant of steroid Eczema cream. There are additional alternatives that may aid in handling severe Eczema rashes. Oral ingestion of steroids relieves inflammation. An immunosuppressive drug like Methotrexate assists in controlling the skin's response to irritants. These medicines should be taken under a physician's advice, to avoid any side effects.

UVB or PUVA light therapy is recommended for people who are unresponsive to other forms of treatment. The benefit of phototherapy is similar to the effect of sunshine on our skin. PUVA therapy is accompanied with an oral medication called psoralen, which is taken a few hours before UVA light therapy. This form of treatment is effective on stubborn Eczema rashes. Its short-term effects include sunburn, but it may also cause skin cancer and premature ageing when used incorrectly.

Some Eczema sufferers have found evening primrose oil useful in treating Eczema rashes. The gamolenic acids found in this Eczema remedy works by encouraging the production of essential fatty acids. A deficiency in these fatty acids causes atopic dermatitis. Its efficiency has not been evaluated thoroughly. In fact, recent studies have shown their inefficiency in healing Eczema.

If you prefer a more traditional approach in healing Eczema rashes, you may want to try Chinese herbal medicine. Many of its users have profited from using this traditional Eczema remedy. Some critics, however, have questioned its long-term effects on the liver and heart. A few brands of herbal Eczema cures have tested positive for steroid content. There are also no governing policies to moderate the production of Chinese herbal medicine.

Additional medication is needed for Eczema rashes that are accompanied with viral, fungal or bacterial infections. These infections prevent rashes from healing properly. A doctor may prescribe an antibiotic for oral intake. Fungal creams are prescribed for fungal infections. The skin behind the knees and elbows are prone to sweating, making them more susceptible to fungal growth. Prevent further infection by adding an antiseptic solution to your bath twice a week.
