The Importance Of Teamwork In The Business World

Teamwork can be tough. Many people are more comfortable with completely a job by themselves, not only because of the comfort factor and not having to deal with different personalities, but also because they do not have to rely on others. Most people like to be judged for their own performance and don't want their job performance determined by external factors beyond their control.

But there are some cases where teamwork is the best way to solve a problem. One such case is when you try to simplify a process of eliminating waste. Waste is a killer for any company and especially when times are tough and the economy is in trouble, you can not afford to let waste continue. Waste costs money in lost product errors, storage of equipment or unnecessary parts and not using the equipment you have. How much time is lost when a piece is badly done and is continuing to travel all the way to the packing?

Not only wasting money on parts and materials used but also the work that went into making the part. What about the time that the bad part spent being worked on through the automated processes and tied up the equipment? This was a waste of time because if a bad part wasn't being manufactured than a good part could have been. So not only do waste all that time and material on the bad part, but also waste the time that could be used to make the good parts, but now must be wasted to correct the problem.

You must ask yourself if the problem could be identified earlier in the process. Could the part rejected have been avoided? Is there a point in the process when the part was handled by one of the employees who could have stopped the process with a visual inspection or do they not even know what they're looking for?

It's crucial for the employees working on the factory floor to be confident to halt the process when they observe something out of line or wrong. Are your employees trusted or trained enough to know what is wrong or right with a product simply by looking at it? Is there a point in the process, a critical step that could be checked for quality before it's done wrong and costs a lot of money and wasted time?
