Growing longer eyelashes has become more popular than ever. Anywhere we look these days, there always seems to be a solution for short and thinning eyelashes. However, regardless of all the solutions available, it still remains quite challenging to grow longer eyelashes. Why is it that growing our eyelashes is far more difficult than growing our hair? The truth is our eyelashes are the slowest growing hair in our body, and this is just one factor that affects eyelash growth. There are several other considerations we must keep in mind in growing eyelashes, and it helps to get to know some of them. In this way, we do not end up getting frustrated all too easily with our efforts to grow longer eyelashes.

In our quest to grow longer eyelashes, it can help a lot if we understood the different stages or phases in which our eyelashes grow. The different eyelash growth stages can tell us much about what to expect from our eyelashes as they grow. The first phase or the anagen phase is the active growth stage of our eyelashes. This phase can last up to seven weeks, and this is when almost 30% of our eyelashes are actively growing.

Next is the catagen phase or the lag phase, where eyelash growth experiences gaps. In this phase, the follicles start to shrink and our eyelashes stop growing. The telogen phase is the last growth stage before our eyelashes finally fall out. But you need not worry, it is almost impossible for all our eyelashes to fall out all at the same time. They all have their own growth stages so some will fall out ahead of the others and some will fall out last.

Having known the different growth stages that our eyelashes have, we now have a better idea of what we can do to enhance and stimulate their growth. We can try making some changes in our diet so that we can nourish ourselves well with nutrients. A lack in nutrients can cause our eyelashes to grow slower than normal.

Another factor that affects eyelash growth is our age. The older we are, the harder it is to grow eyelashes. Of course, our genetic structure also affects the length of our eyelashes. If our genes tell us we are meant to have short eyelashes, there is really nothing we can do about it, unless we use growth enhancers and stimulants. However, the length to which they can grow will be comparably shorter than those who already have long and beautiful eyelashes.
