The average person usually assumes that seeds are all the same; you plant them, they grow. While that was true centuries ago, there are now countless varieties of seeds that have been bred, cross pollinated, and genetically altered in order to promote certain positive traits that benefit farmers and produce vendors. These hybrid seeds reproduce very differently from their all-natural counterparts, however, this makes them unacceptable for long term, sustainable gardens. Some survival seed scam artists have been known to sell hybrid seeds to customers who expected to use them for their sustainable gardens; by being cautious, this will not happen to you.

A few companies have alleged that hybrid seeds are incapable of reproducing, but that is only true of genetically altered seeds. Hybrid seeds are more a product of years of specific cross pollination by farmers who want to find the perfect seed, capable of producing the tallest, most attractive, most delicious produce. Growth and germination rates are usually different in seeds gotten from hybrid parents, however.

Non hybrid seeds reproduce nutritionally beneficial plants, fruits, and vegetables. When you cultivate non hybrid seeds, you know that the seeds contained in the produce will be able to grow into fruit bearing plants. These seeds are the smartest option for storing seeds or planting a self sustaining home garden.

A number of companies have recently come on the market offering kits for planting and maintaining emergency or crisis gardens in case of an extreme food shortage. These companies claim to use only non hybrid seeds in their kits, but some scam artists are adding some or all hybrid seeds in these seed banks and massively overcharging for them. Look into customer comments of survival seed banks before you buy them to be certain that you will be getting exactly what you pay for. You do not want to end up overpaying for seeds that are essentially useless.

You are likely shopping for seed banks in order to bring peace of mind to your loved ones; the only thing that can ruin that is being taken advantage of by a survival seeds scam artist. Do not purchase products that include hybrid seeds which cannot be counted on to provide you with seeds that will keep your sustainable garden growing. Heirloom or non hybrid seeds are the best option when buying seeds you plan on storing or using to sustain a garden. These seeds grow into mature plants that provide nutritious produce and seeds that can be replanted.
