Enclave, by John Alexander, is a thrill-a-page novel providing nonstop action and a frenetic pace, keeping readers on their toes. Alexander opens the book with an action scene, stirring conflict to reel in the reader--reminiscent of any Dan Brown novel. This action-packed book flies at break-neck speed and is a must read for all mystery and suspense aficionados.
The story revolves around the development and use of technology. The protagonist of Enclave is Jason Carter, a software engineer who constructs Rounder, which is software designed to protect the company and its lab from probing eyes. Liz Johnson is in charge of engineering at StarTeque, a research firm in the Rockies, while Mr. G is the founder of the firm. The antagonist of the novel, Vincent Dawson, is a revenge-seeking software engineer working for a secret government agency.
While Vincent is inherently bad, the loss of his wife also contributes to his becoming a despicable man. The intrigue factor enters when readers learn that Jason Carter has also lost his wife, but concentrates his efforts on achievement and success through hard work. When Carter inadvertently mistypes a digit in Rounder, his search ends at the research firm, StarTeque. Not surprisingly, the firm, which desires to be isolated from intruders, and operates rather secretively, accuses Carter of deliberate intrusion.
While this initially leads to conflict between Liz Johnson and Carter, they slowly grow to trust each other. Their trusting relationship gradually turns intimate, and ultimately the two join forces to vanquish Vincent Dawson. The story peaks when the granddaughter of a U.S. Congresswoman is kidnapped. Johnson and Carter embark on a frantic chase to locate Dawson.
Overall, Enclave is an exciting read that offers thought-provoking thematic elements such as pain, death, resurgence, resolve, and romance. It captures the fascinating dynamic between two characters who suffer similar tragedies, while contrasting Carter's resolve to regroup and return his life to normal, and Dawson's unyielding desire for destruction and revenge. To be sure, Enclave will keep you riveted to the end. The book can be ordered at Amazon.com and almost everywhere books are sold.
