I used to get a great buzz from the thoughts of watching TV shows and movies on my mobile device. It all seemed so futuristic and it seemed that there would never be a reason to be bored again. Now that we can watch our favourite shows and the latest movies this way it is a bit of an anti-climax. The reality of this is not nearly as exciting as the dream was and in fact I believe that when it comes to watching movies in this way, the cons far outweigh the pros. I don't actually think that watching things while is on the move is a great idea anymore although occasionally it is nice. The following are some of the reasons why I find the whole idea of watching TV shows and movies on my mobile device a bit of a let down.
- The screen is too small. Sure the iPad has a much bigger screen, and I'm sure more of us will be watching things on this, but it is hardly a mobile device in its truest form. You would not really get away with sneaking an iPad into the loo during work to have a quick peek at the football. When you watch a movie on a mobile device, you tend to miss a lot of the action because the screen size is so small and yet watching it again on a full size television is something that a lot of people won't do because they know the story again.
- It can be very distracting to watch movies and TV shows while on the move as there is just too much going on around you. Muggers will see your mobile device and will see you as a target while you are hunched over a little screen trying to focus on what is happening on it.
- If you want to legally watch movies and shows on a mobile device then it will probably cost you a lot of money.
