Good for you! Hitting upon this feature proves you must be thinking about your future, and if you're considering retraining you've even now progressed more than almost everybody else. Can you believe that a small minority of us are contented at work - yet most will do absolutely nothing about it. Why don't you be different and make a start - don't you think you deserve it.
Prior to considering individual training courses, discuss your thoughts with an industry expert who will give you advice on which area will be right for you. An advisor who will take time to get to know your personality, and find out what types of work suit you:
* Are you happier left to your own devices at work or is being in a team environment more important to you?
* Have you given much thought to which area you choose to work in? (In this economy, it's vital to be selective.)
* Once your training has been completed, would you like your new abilities to serve you till you retire?
* Do you have niggles about your possibilities of getting another job, and staying employable right up to retirement?
Pay attention to Information Technology, that's our best advice - it's one of the only growing market sectors throughout Europe. In addition, salaries and benefits exceed most other industries.
A lot of training providers are still using a now out-dated method of training - in-centre classes. Often sold as a benefit, following a chat with most students who've had to attend a couple, you'll hear a common theme of many or all of these issues:
* Loads of travelling to and from the workshop centre - sometimes hundreds of miles.
* Taking time off work - most companies only offer weekday availability and link several days together. This can be hard for a lot of working people, and this is made worse if you include the travel time on top.
* The majority of us think 20 days holiday per year is not really enough. Knock off a good 50 percent of that for training events and watch how much harder things become.
* With the high costs involved, most training companies have to put on larger classes - not ideal (and much less personal).
* Many students want to study at a pace that is different to the other class members. Sometimes this causes a classic case of 'classroom tension'.
* Count the cost of all the travel, fares, food, parking and accommodation, and you could be in for a major shock. Students mention extra costs of hundreds to thousands of pounds over time. Sit down and add it up - and you'll see how.
* Privacy is important to us all. We shouldn't risk throwing away any advancement that we're owed because our employer knows we're retraining.
* How many of us have shied away from raising a hand in the air, because we didn't want to look stupid?
* When your work takes you away from home, you now have to deal with the fact that workshops can become very hard to attend - but unfortunately, they've already been paid for.
Why don't you just watch and learn with instructors one-to-one in pre-made classes, working on them at your convenience - not somebody else's.
Training can take place wherever it suits you. If you've got a laptop, you could catch some sunshine outside while you work. If any problem raises its head then make use of the 24x7 support.
Irrespective of how many times you would like to re-take a quiz or test, filmed instructors aren't ever likely to rush you! Plus, with this method, you can forget taking notes. Everything is already there for immediate use.
Could it get any simpler: A lot of money is saved and you avoid all the travelling; and you've got a much more relaxed training atmosphere.
Student support is absolutely essential - find a program that includes 24x7 access, as anything less will not satisfy and will also hold up your pace and restrict your intake.
Avoid those companies who use 'out-of-hours' call-centres - with your call-back scheduled for typical office hours. This is no use if you're stuck and need help now.
We recommend that you search for providers that have multiple support offices around the globe in several time-zones. Each one should be integrated to give a single entry point together with access round-the-clock, when it's convenient for you, with no hassle.
Never ever take second best when it comes to your support. Most would-be IT professionals who throw in the towel, would have had a different experience if they'd got the right support package in the first place.
