Having a baby is one of the greatest joys in life. Over the course of your baby's life there will be events, stories, photos and special memories that you will want to preserve for future generations to enjoy. Creating a baby and family scrap book is an easy and fun way to store photos and memorabilia for years. Scrap books can be as simple as photos and journaling, or much more elaborate.
If you have never scrap booked before it may seem a daunting task, but it doesn't have to be difficult. Even if you didn't start when your children were young, you can start any time. Due to the increasing popularity of scrap booking over the last decade or so, supplies and ideas are widely available in stores and online.
The only items your need to get started are paper, photos, pens, tape or glue for securing photos and page protectors. You can purchase ready to use scrap books or make your own. (Archival quality supplies are not necessary, but your scrap books will last for many more years using them.)
More elaborate scrap books have stickers, buttons, ribbons and other decorations on each page. These are beautiful and fun but take more time to complete. Whether you choose to create simple or elaborate scrap books, your book should always include journaling, writing what is happening in the photos. It can be as simple as who, what, when and where. These can be printed from a computer, but actually handwriting these entries give your scrap book historical qualities.
Chronicling your child's life allows you to see how your child changes as he or she grows. Using something like a teddy bear to put next to baby in one picture periodically lets you easily see how your baby grows. Using color, themes, and stickers on your pages will make them fun and interesting, but are not necessary to create a treasured piece for future generations.
