The Acer Aspire Revo comes with a compact form, inexpensive price and basic computing functions. They include document processing, media playback and web surfing. This clever device is recommendable for people who are subjected to space constraints. Its working parts are all located inside its body that's more or less the size of a pocket book. No need to worry about the tower of a full-scale desktop.
Belonging to the nettop category, it has low-wattage requirements and provides basic capabilities. This unit has a form factor measuring 1.2 inches (D) x 7.1 inches (W) x 7.1 inches (H). Panels in the front and back are painted in glossy black finish. Semi-hexagonal in shape, it can be propped up with the help of a V-shape stand that comes with it. Although placing it flat on a surface doesn't affect performance.
The edges are in glossy white finish, showing off the numerous ports it has. Microphone, headphone, eSATA and S/PDIF jacks are placed on the left edge. VGA, HDMI, Ethernet and 4 USB ports can be found on the right edge. There are 2 more USB ports located on the top edge. The backlit ON/OFF button is placed on the front panel's top-left part.
It comes pre-installed with a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium. A dual-core 1.6GHz Intel Atom N330 processor resides within it. Such is ideal for nettops and most netbooks for low-wattage requirements. The Revo also comes with a spacious 160GB hard drive and an Nvidia Ion graphics system. Acer has thrown in a handful of useful applications, like a software for creating a backup.
There's one thing you will notice right away with the Revo: it doesn't have an integrated or external monitor. While it comes affordably priced, your budget should also include the monitor, if you don't have one yet. But then the purchase comes with a matching keyboard and mouse, both wireless and white colored. A pair of USB speakers is thrown in too, which surprisingly produce good sound quality despite of their small size.
Again, it provides you with basic computing tasks. Such include document processing, multimedia playback and web surfing - what's considered as the heart of a nettop. Playing light games is also possible, but demanding ones are subject to graphics and frame rate degradation. One thing this unit is really good at is playing high-definition videos. No picture stalling or Audio stuttering can be observed.
If you have to deal with cramped spaces, the Acer Aspire Revo is the nettop for you. It's compact, stylish, and taking it with you is hassle-free as it weighs only less than 2 pounds. This gadget fits your life to a T if what you require in a PC is basic computing and Internet surfing only.
