If you are planning on taking your RV or toy hauler into the back country, then you may be more susceptible to animal attacks. To prevent attacks, learn what you and your fellow motor home or toy hauler travelers can do. You should be respectful of the RV or toy hauler camp area and wild life, but you should also be smart in knowing how to protect yourself and those traveling in your party.
Some of the most common attacks from animals come from ants, bees, and bears. You will find these animals as you take your towable toy hauler or motor home into the back country. You want to follow these tips and protect your RV and toy hauler companions.
1. Bees: Did you know that bees look for moisture? Well, they do, so when you travel in moister climates in your RV or toy hauler trailer, then be aware. Also, be aware of spots around your toy hauler camp ground that has moisture, such as water coolers, radiator coolers, or ice chests.
When you happen to find yourself in a situation where bees are swarming, you should find a place to hide. The toy hauler or RV makes a good spot to hide. Bees can stay in one place for a lengthy period of time, so pay attention to where you chose to hide. You may not want to run into a lake or pond. If you can leave in your RV immediately, then do so. If, for any reason, you or your companions are stung, you should get immediate medical attention.
2. Bears: Did you know that bears are sensitive to scent? Scents mean anything from lip gloss to toothpaste. If you have lots of scented items at your toy hauler or motor home camp site, then you should have a bear canister. They are used to store food when in bear territory for safety.
When you see a black bear, you should try scaring it by being loud, throwing rocks, and waving your arms. Get to your RV as soon as you can, and drive away. When you see a grizzly bear, you need to immediate back away carefully and slowly. Get into your motor home and leave ASAP.
3. Fire ant attacks: Ants often build their nests beneath rocks or logs, but if the area is open, there could be a dome shaped ant nest. They could attack a human being in a swarm, so be aware of any domes or hiding spots they could build in. Many people are allergic to fire ants, so seek medical attention immediately. Move the RV if you see many different nest spots.
When you go RVing in the back country, be preventative and stay safe. Know your surroundings and what to do in case of emergency from animal attacks.
