Choosing a best man is not always easy; especially if you have many friends. You are not going to want to offend anyone but you really do have to decide. But the whole build up to the wedding could be affected by a wrong decision as could the actual day itself. The tips below should help you to make your decision as to who to ask to be your best man on the day.
- The most obvious choice for a best man will usually be your best friend, but this is not always something that you can do. You may not be doing yourself any favours by asking someone who is just not up to the job at all, so you have to think about this. You need to determine if your best friend will be able to handle the stress involved in this job and if you really think he is the type of person to pull it off. If you aren't going to choose your best friend then you can talk to them about your reasons in a tactful way.
- Even if they really don't want to do it, there are a few people who will agree to be your best man if you ask them to. If you have chosen a best man who is a little bit reluctant then there are a number of things they may not want to do, and this could cause problems.
- If you speak to a group of your friends about how you are finding it difficult to make a decision then you may be able to all come to a decision together about who will be the best choice.
- Make sure that whoever is going to be your best man fully understands their responsibilities and that they are OK with this before agreeing to anything. There are so many people who agree to be a best man without actually realising what they will have to do. If you are clear from the start there will be less risk that they will let you down.
