There are various techniques to carry out Jack Russell terrier training. Plenty of pet owners consider positive training as the best approach, however, there are some who think that correction-based training works more effective than anything else. Sadly, there are also people who believe that rough or punishment-based training still works in training their pets to turn into a well-mannered one.

Varied training approaches give dog owners several choices to choose from, nevertheless, they are at risk of causing confusion and later lead to training mistakes if not addressed properly. It would be best therefore to prevent the mistake before it is even committed.

Harsh training and physical punishment.

Though Jack Russell terriers are reported to be stubborn at times, that does not make harsh training the most effective Jack Russell terrier training technique for them. The truth is, inflicting pain to teach them a lesson can do more harm than good. So undoubtedly hitting, spanking, slapping or rubbing your pet's nose on his mess will not make him a good dog you've been looking for.

Prolonged training.

Dogs, especially the likes of Jack Russell terriers have a tendency to bore quickly due to their fairly short attention span. Thus training a specific command should be carried out within five to ten minutes knowing that they won't be able to concentrate if training would last past that.

Training in a bad mood.

Whether it's you or your pet who woke up at the wrong side of the bed, training in a bad mood can greatly influence the learning procedure. It helps to set aside the training for the meantime if you are stressed, annoyed or tense. The same should be done if you believe that your terrier is sick, nervous or stressed.

Expecting a lot.

While it is not wrong to hope, expecting too much is a different story. Expecting that your smart terrier can figure out the command after first try is one step towards frustration.
