In the scriptures, it talks about three things that will always happen: babies will always be born, people will always get married and people will always get old and die. I am concentrating my efforts right now on the last two and hope to incorporate the first.
I own my own very very small insurance agency (just me) and I have an online bridal mall. I will be having an online baby mall in the next few years as well. I believe that we have to stop thinking job and start thinking income. I have not had a "regular" job in 6 years.
Here's some home or small businesses in the baby/child area: foster care, home day care, selling used and consignment baby and children's clothes plus equipment (strollers, cribs, playpens, highchair, etc.)....
Here's some home or small businesses in the bridal area: wedding consulting and planning; sell handmade wedding items; sell used or consignment wedding dresses; sell used ceremony and reception items; sell honeymoon packages and sell life insurance to the couples....
Some home or small businesses in the aged/death area: sell Medicare plans (I do this); day care for the aged; keep aged person in your home; home healthcare business; errand business for aged; bill paying business for aged; prepaid funeral arrangements and sell final expense policies...and the list can go on and on.
In this economy, we have to think outside of the box. My husband and I both believe that we're headed quickly back to a type of agricultural age where the people made their own incomes. Especially for baby boomers because people don't usually hire over 45 year old people, so we have to make our own incomes.
You might also consider renting out a bedroom or two in your home. A friend lived in one for two weeks a few months back when he was relocating. He now has his own apartment. He had use of their kitchen and had a bed, night stand, dresser and closet. Reliable relocation agencies are available to help people find good tenants and are available to assist tenants in securing safe homes.
You can develop your own income if you concentrate in the three areas that will never stop: babies and children; weddings and marriages; aged and death. Think outside of the box.
Stop looking for a job and instead develop an income.
