It's not hard to make a case for buying a coffee machine. Few are the coffee purists who would only deign to brew their coffee in a French Press, cafeteria, or Chemex contraption. No, most Americans are more than happy to have their morning cups prepared by machines. But, few are the coffee drinkers who can gulp down an entire pot of java juice.

This is where making the case for single cup coffee machines comes into play. One cup is enough for most people. While the thought of  downing an entire pot seems appealing, more times than not, it's a case of your eyes being bigger than your stomach. Plus, there is the added benefit of using less and getting just what you need.

In terms of pure economics, the single cup model is the way to go. After all, it uses less coffee, less water, and ultimately less energy. Although your carbon footprint isn't the first thing on your mind in the morning, it is something you should be mindful of. At least, that's what people say.

People also say you should have everything right when you want it. So if you feel the single cup is too restrictive, there are coffee machines on market that can be programmed to brew more than one and less than a pot. These cutting edge models tend to be found at premium cafes, like Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and the like. They're moderately priced and worth every penny in the long run.

Be mindful. Waste not, want not. Check out a single cup coffee machine and weigh the pros and cons, then weigh the cost benefits to the price tag. Think about it, chances are you're like most people, meaning you need a great cup of coffee in the morning to get you going, then another in the afternoon to get you through the day. The single cup may be the perfect choice for you.

More Information:

The best single cup coffee machines are the ones sold by high-end manufacturers. Don't settle for some bargain basement machine -- remember, you always get what you pay for.
