Wherever in the world they are, the world is ruled and obsessed by those that can make people look and feel good. The best fashion designers are those who use the most unique materials, reinvent classic styles or looks and create attire for all shapes and sizes. Top Fashion designers can create clothing for the high street or for the city but whatever they do; the clothes must be creative, a trend setter and suit a type of person perfectly.
One of these iconic fashion designers could be Christian Dior who now hosts about 60 main boutiques worldwide which sell the main designer wear whereas other department stores only have rights to sell certain products such as eye wear, make up and lingerie. Dior is meant to stand for seduction, creativity and femininity in the fashion world and with it being launched in 1947 it had a set of celebrity followers such as Greta Garbo, the Duchess of Windsor and Marlene Dietrich. Christian Dior, born in 1905 studied political sciences before considering the career of a fashion designer in 1931.
Christian is well-known for his collaborative work with Jacques Bajean and Pierre Balmain. In 1945 he was able to create his own trademark and open his first store in Paris. However, in 1957 he passed away and so now Yves Saint Laurent is the head of the designer house and works with designers such as John Galliano. Another famous designer who made Calvin Klein was Francisco Costa who was a Brazilian that moved to New York to pursue his dream in fashion. He studied at the Fashion Institute of Technology and his first big fashion break occurred when Oscar de la Renta asked him to take responsibility for the signature and Pink Label Collections with his high society fashion house as well as Pierre Balmain's haute couture and Dior's famous 'ready to wear.'
In 1998, he got the position of senior designer at Gucci where he was able to create his unique custom designs for clients as well as celebrities. It was this experience with Gucci that gave him the skills in 2002 to return to New York to work for Calvin Klein as the creative director of women's fashions. In 2003, Calvin Klein retired and so the label was to be run by Italo Zucchelli. But, perhaps, one of the legends in the fashion world is Chanel who tried to create the unexpected in the past. Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel was responsible for setting up the Chanel House in 1913 and then in 1983, she appointed Karl Lagerfeld as artistic director.
It is most admirable that Chanel taught herself fashion, and she is best known for her little black dress and her perfume Chanel no. 5 which was originally created in 1921 and is still a confirmed classic today. Although she died in 1971, Lagerfeld has carried on her legacy by continuing the trend of linking sport with high fashion through the creation of Chanel specific snowboards, changing the concept of tweed and transforming it into leggings and berets as well as creating outsized pearls. With such a success at its fingertips, Chanel is now a commercial powerhouse and perhaps Chanel is the most iconic designer of them all.
