Moving Company Storage For Corporate Goods

I don’t claim to be Mr. “Fortune 500,” but I do have some weighty corporate responsibilities. Last February (2010), the Powers That Be decided we needed more space and had to move our offices across town. We would take a few things with us into a temporary facility – our lease was up, and we didn’t plan to renew – and keep everything else in storage until the new place was ready for us. The task was mine; the Decision Makers simply didn’t have time for it. So I needed to find moving company storage for corporate goods – and if you’ve been in this situation, it isn’t as easy as it may seem.

Being mainly a “desk guy,” I didn’t know much about this field. I figured I could just call one of the Big Dogs in the moving company world, pay them what they required, and watch them work. Ha! Not a chance, Sally. Sure, the “leading brand” of movers had the space available, but the common storage I found was simply a sardine-style garage with concrete floors; not really the IDEAL space for a $500 oak desk – that my boss immediately in charge of me had custom-made. So no, I wouldn’t be doing that.

Not to mention we have a lot creative people in our office – people on whose minds rested all our marketing strategies, logo design, and business models. Do you really think that after all the years at office #1, they’re going to be “O.K.” with NOT having their special pen in the same spot they left it? How about that picture of their kids that they treasure? Does it matter to them if the glass is cracked or it doesn’t stand up anymore because a careless mover just didn’t have the time to “handle with care”?

These things matter, and they matter greatly to the infrastructure of my corporate world.

We needed palettes, we needed our inventory to be RECORDED. On a computer, backed up by a hand-written document with a signature or two. I tell you this: a lot of the leading companies just don’t do this, due to either time constraints or lack of interest.

Thankfully, I did find a company that met my needs. And I kept my job.

I’ve read horror stories about this sort of thing in the past, and I wasn’t about to trust my entire future on a couple guys who looked like they may have a 12-pack of mysterious brew behind the passenger’s seat. No way, no how.

Maybe someday I WILL be Mr. Fortune 500. But only because of my super-savvy decisions regarding moving company storage for corporate goods.
