When you’re ready to move, there are numerous things to look for regarding storage solutions and services: which company, why, how they operate, etc., etc.
One of the most important things – especially when you’re moving business inventory (non-residential) – certainly must be HOW your items are going to be packed (if you’re not going to do it yourself). What sort of filler does the company put in the boxes? Do they stack glass on glass? If you’re not fully satisfied with the answers you get to those two questions, it might be time to move on to the next company; the storage solution you choose must make you feel comfortable with your decision.
If you’re moving heavy equipment such as processing machines, do they have a solution for you? Do they offer crates for such things? Many a factory has grown too large for its original housing and has needed to move. How do they do it? There are companies for this, so don’t lose hope. Keep searching. And many of them do offer long-term storage for affordable prices, in case your new place won’t be ready for a while. Many companies in the winter months of the north must do this.
If you have seed, mulch, or anything else that comes in bags and must not be spilled, what do you do? Look for a storage company that offers pallets as an option. That way, you can stack your important bags up and have them wrapped up in plastic wrap to keep them safe during the move.
How big are the storage units? You don’t want to run into a situation in which you have three-quarters of your or your company’s belongings all packed into a unit – only to realize you will now need TWO units and your bill is going to double. Set out right away finding a company that can do a professional job of looking at how much you have and how much space you will need in order to have everything fit comfortably.
Find a company that is willing to listen to what you need. For the right storage solutions and services, you need to know if the organization is going to do things “their way,” or if they’re willing to try new things based on what YOU need. As tough as the competition must be in such a market, many of these companies might be willing to listen to you as a consumer. Are they willing to establish trust with you, keeping an ongoing relationship for future moves? Or does it seem like they’re simply guided by a corporate machine, only looking to make a buck and not care about that family photo of yours?
You just can’t be too careful about picking the right company for this major task.
