When it comes to bang for your buck San Jose is no slouch. I realize this sounds crazy, especially when you've got San Francisco to the west and Berkeley to the north, but trust me, if you're looking for one of the best times Dot Com money can buy, you should look into San Jose vacation packages to the place Dionne Warwick made famous.
If you think about it, the city itself is older than the United States. It's more than 250 years old! Granted, many of those first decades were spent as a cozy little Spanish mission, but still. The city has transformed itself into a virtual Mecca of technological wizardry. It is home to the majority of tech firms in the country, including Apple, Microsoft, Intel, and Google.
OK, I know many of these firms are in towns like Mountain View or Cupertino, but that's the beauty of San Jose. As the de facto heart of the Silicon Valley, it sees all the major players come and go. Granted, technological movers and shakers don't exactly make for an exciting vacation. It's not like the Hollywood Walk of Fame or the Golden Gate Bridge.
But, in fact what those cities don't have is the endless stream of Dot Com money. That money has gone a long way to make San Jose into a powerful state and national contender. In fact, now it's the third largest city in the state, trailing just behind San Diego and Los Angeles. That's quite an accomplishment, and one that would have been impossible without some substantial investment in infrastructure and culture.
From world-class art museums to theaters to sports complexes, San Jose is poised to become something really tantalizing. Five star-hotels, five-star restaurants, and five-star hospitality -- the city has come to be called the "LA of Northern California." That's not to say it's a traffic-congested mess of violence -- no. I think they're thinking of LA circa 1950.
