Scotland, in the UK, is an amazing place to take a vacation with a bountiful amount of attractions including some of the most impressive museums and galleries in the whole of the British Isles, countryside perfect for mountain climbers, hill-walkers, ramblers, hikers and the likes as well as a huge collection of castles, country houses, historical buildings and fortified houses. In the following article I introduce the island of Arran and explain why the island is such an excellent place to take a vacation.

The Isle of Arran is the 7th largest island in the country of Scotland and even though the island is frequently referred to as being in the Hebrides it is actually situated in the Firth of Clyde. With tourism being Arran's main industry it will not surprise you that there is an incredible number of Arran hotels. Though most tourists visit the island in order to enjoy the breathtaking countryside there are also a respectable selection of visitor attractions including; Kildonan Castle, Brodick Castle Gardens and Country Park, Arran Transport Museum and Arran Heritage Museum.

There are several towns and villages, the biggest settlement is Brodick, the site of the ferry terminal with ferries running to Ardrossan on the mainland. Lamlash, 4 miles south of Brodick, is the site where you can grab a boat to Holy Island.

Lochranza is largest settlement in the northern part of the island and will find the ferry terminal with ferries running to Claonaig in Southern Argyll. It is important to know that the ferry only sails in the summer. The village is located in a large, and picturesque, bay with the ruins of Lochranza Castle being the main draw.

The village of Blackwaterfoot is the biggest on the western coast of Arran. It features a small harbour, a public house (bar) and a garage (including a petrol station). Other places to visit are; Kilmory (south coast), Catacol (in the north), Whiting Bay (south of Brodick), Corrie (north of Brodick) and finally Pirnmill which features the finest beach on the Isle of Arran.
