When most people think about having a vacation in Great Britain they mostly only think about resorts by the sea such as Whitby, Bognor Regis, Eastbourne and Clacton-on-Sea. Occasionally people might consider having a vacation in a specific English county for example Devon in south England but not very often do they debate taking a short break in the city of Exeter. The following article introduces various reasons why an Exeter vacation is a cool idea.
The first reasons for having a short city break in Exeter is that the accommodation is extremely reasonable with Exeter bed and breakfast available from roughly 25 per night and lots of places around the 40 - 50 range.
Of course you will need more than a low price to entice you to stay in a city and Exeter definitely has lots to offer the potential tourist. You will discover that there are numerous first class visitor attractions in the city and even more nearby and if this isn't enough then Plymouth is only a short distance away, and you will discover that there is also cheap bed and breakfast in Plymouth and even more fantastic tourist attractions. Plus you will discover masses of breathtaking sites to see all along the nearby coast.
Where To Stay In Exeter
The Drewe Arms This accommodation is superb, the rooms are reasonably priced but the actual building is a charming 17th century thatched inn situated on the famous Two Moors Way walking route. Please note that it is about fifteen miles away from Exeter's city center. If you want more luxury the inn also features four-poster rooms.
The Crawford Hotel This hotel is far closer to Exeter city center, roughly 1.6 km. It is a two star hotel with good en suite accommodation and, importantly, twenty four hour access to your room, superb if you are going to be having a late night, or you need access during the day. There is there is Free wireless Internet access available in the public places of the hotel.
Things To See & Do
In Exeter there are just a small number of tourist attractions which merit your time including; St Peter's Cathedral, Rougemont Castle and the Royal Albert Museum. As I mentioned earlier there is a small selection of nearby seaside resorts to see the best being the pretty villages of Seaton, Sidmouth and Beer.
Further away, between Exeter and Plymouth is the sparsely populated moorland of the Dartmoor National Park with the overall area having a fair few visitor attractions to see including Buckland Abbey, A La Ronde and Buckfast Abbey on the main road, to Plymouth. Along the way you will pass the Torbay area, which is made up of Torquay, Paignton and Brixham and is commonly called the English Riviera.
Exeter really is a cool place in which to have a vacation but why not have a think about having a twin destination vacation and spend a couple of days in a nice hotel in Plymouth and travel around the gorgeous coastline in between these two superb cities?
