In these times of financial hardship and rising fuel prices, household incomes are being stretched like never before. This coupled with the fact that the environment is an issue for many has made the need to save energy more urgent. Cavity wall insulation can both cut energy bills and help the environment.
In order to prevent heat loss a cavity wall is pumped full of a porous substance called cavity wall insulation. This substance has the effect of insulating through the air it traps. This air remains stagnant within the wall and results in a huge reduction in loss of heat from the home.
Many brick houses are constructed with two adjacent walls built adjacent to one and other. The gap between the two walls is usually only a few inches. An initial survey of the property is undertaken by a surveyor or builder and if the house is suitable installation will normally only take two hours.
During the work the installation team will require unrestricted access to all walls of the house including conservatories and garages. The procedure will only be successful if all walls of the home are treated. Breakables should be put away before the work commences as the process can cause significant vibration.
The whole installation is quick but can cause a lot of dust and some debris. A lot of equipment will be used some of which will be noisy. The installation team should have clear access to the building, so there should be no cars parked up near the walls of the house. Some pets might get distressed by the disruption, so it might be a good idea to take them away while the work is done.
Once the installation is complete the home owner can expect to see heating bill reductions of up to a third. Although this process can be expensive these savings in energy save the individual thousands of pounds over the lifetime of the house. There are also government grants available for those on low incomes.
