Choosing A Wedding Venue Isn't Easy

It might be one of the hardest things you will ever do. Decisions are not easy to make when you know you only have one shot at making it the most special day of your life. The very idea of beginning to plan it may well fill you with dread, but with a checklist and a good plan of attack, it doesn’t have to be as difficult as all that. Before you start anything, you should sit down and try and work out just what your priorities are, your budget is and what kind of venue you will be on the lookout for. When it comes to the venue, there are a million questions you’re going to need answering, but here are a few of our favourites that might have slipped your mind.

Does the venue have the ability to store presents and if so, are they insured against damage or theft? The last thing you want to do at the end of the night is work out how to get all of your gifts back to a secure place, and giving the job to a family member whose partaken in one too many might not be the wisest suggestion. Much better to come back the next day when the excitement of the night is over, and you can collect and deliver them back home safely and securely.

Is there a room or facilities that could be used as a crèche? Kids are adorable at weddings, and an essential addition, but they can be a lot of work for the parents and hold back parents from adult company as the day moves on. Venues that provide a crèche can take the pressure off of the parents for a short time, and others still might provide fun activities or facilities specifically for the children that could help alleviate a little boredom for them and use up a bit of that pent up energy.

Finding out what kind of time frame will be available before the wedding day to set up is very important. The difference between a few hours and a full day or more can make a lot of difference to stress levels and ease of organisation. Knowing how much help, if any, the venue will provide can also help you when it comes to developing a plan of attack for decoration. You might even get lucky and the venue might do it all for you.

Will rooms be available for the bride and groom to get ready in? Having a room for both the bride and groom on the same site as the venue can make organisation and time keeping a lot simpler. It will also reduce the stress levels; no one wants to worry about ruining their just perfect hair or risking their cravat going wonky. A dress change may be required between the wedding and the evening reception, and a room set aside for this will be a valuable asset for this and perhaps the odd touch up to makeup or hair.

Although the above might not be at the forefront of your mind, it’s far too easy to get caught up in trivial matters like the wedding dress or the catering (we joke!), but you’d do well to consider absolutely every angle when you start planning for the special day.
