"Going Green" has never been more at the forefront of society than it is today. Whether a person prescribes to any facts or theories about the earth itself and its state insofar as pollution goes is neither here nor there for many, as they simply wish to take care of their world in a safe manner. Practicing rules of conservation, within one’s means, can never be a bad thing.
Some earth-conscious cleaning services are implementing rules and regulations for their business that follow this Green Code, as well. While it’s not always an overnight transformation, there are certain positive steps that they are making:
"Green" Products. So many cleaning supplies that we use on a regular basis in our homes are very harmful to the air we breathe. While turning on the fan in the bathroom after spraying it heavily with a toxic solution can prevent us from inhaling too much on the immediate level, those fumes are still released into the environment. So while the all-natural and/or non-toxic cleaning supplies can be more expensive and difficult to purchase, these companies are making strides to completely convert to these "friendlier" products.
Recycling. The numbers and statistics of how many plastic bottles of cleaning supplies that are thrown away – and not recycled – are nothing if not staggering. Cleaning companies that have made the commitment to Go Green have taken the all-important first step of taking care of their empty supplies by never simply adding to landfills.
Partnerships. One of the most difficult tasks that these companies face is with whom they do business. For decades, some cleaning companies have gotten most of their supplies from the same vendor, year after year – and some of them have grown to know each other on personal levels after such a period of time. So when a company makes the decision to only get their supplies from vendors who have adopted – or are adopting – similar earth-friendly practices, ties must sometimes be cut. The problem with this is not only the reliability due to intimacy of the companies, but money comes into play as well. Throughout the years, many have gotten discounts that others haven’t, due to loyalty. Starting all over with a new vendor in the business world can be a major obstacle.
Green cleaning, hopefully, is going to be practiced more and more as we become more aware of how the things we do affect our world. We can only applaud these companies for their efforts, and hope to support them through their transitions.
