There are literally thousands of Free Apps available for your iPad 2 from the App store and many being added daily but the majority of them are worth exactly what you pay for them...nothing. I've spent many hours downloading these Apps hoping to find a little gem only to be disappointed but you just don't know until you try. In among the rubbish, however, I have found many which I use often, and these are some of them that I would recommend you download. Remember, at the time of writing, these Apps are free, but they could have changed by the time you read this. In no particular order, these are my favourites.

Kindle - Amazon's Kindle App. There are over half a million books available at the Kindle Store, and you can download many of these for free to read when you want to just chill. If the book is rubbish, simply delete it, you haven't wasted any money. Of course, all the latest blockbusters are also there if you want to buy them, and I love the fact that you can download them from the App store without even leaving your chair and usually for cheaper than the actual paper edition. This is the kind of app that the iPad was made for.

Movies by Flixter. If you're a movie buff like me, you'll love this app. The app figures out where you are and tells you which films are showing at your local cinema. Or, you can pick a film and the app will tell you where and when that film is on. Pick a film and view the trailer, view photos or reviews from the film and add a rating for the film once you've seen it or add a review. Check out when films are coming to the big screen and what the dates are for DVD releases. The app is also on the iPhone but the extra screen size of the iPad improves the experience.

eBay for iPad - Once you have used this app on your iPad, you'll probably not touch eBay in a web browser again. It's efficient and fast, beautifully showing important details and images in the main results view. It enables quickfire sorting and drag based definition of price ranges. It has it's limitations at the moment but eBay promises updates will only improve this experience.

BBC News - I do like to keep up to date with the latest news and sports headlines and this app is the one that I use to do this. Pick a news story and read it, or watch a video about that subject. Alternatively, watch live video from the BBC's 24 hour news channel.

TV Guide for iPad - Ideal for the couch potatoes among us. If you want to know what's on the TV that night, or in the future, you'll enjoy this app. Choose which channels you want to add to your list and simply scroll up and down the screen to show what are on your chosen channels at any given time. Click on any TV show, and it will give you information about it

Facebook - It would appear that everyone uses Facebook these days and the iPad's app allows you to do nearly everything that you can do using the PC. Take photos and share them with your friends, update your status and see what all your friends are up to, message your friends, etc. The only problem with this is that you will use this app so much at work, you'll never get any work done.

Epicurious - This app gives you tens of thousands of recipes at your fingertips making it an essential app if you like your cooking or just fancy doing something different. The app even shows you a shopping list that you will need for each recipe. The only downside I can see at the moment is that it shows all the measurements in "metric" and I'm still living in the olden days.

Wikipanion - This app is basically just Wikipedia for the iPad. The app lets you search for anything that you want, click on the links for more info about a subject, look at related info or bookmark entries to look at later. It's a good way of finding out the answers to your queries without having to try and Google it, then search through all those pages.

Shazam - Ever heard some song on the radio and wondered "what the heck is that?" or who sings that? This app is the one for you then, simply start the app and it listens to the song and hopefully will tell you what the song actually is, it will even give you the link if you wish to buy it from iTunes. This app is great for those music quizzes, just don't tell anyone you are cheating.

BBC iPlayer - The perfect app if you have missed a BBC programme or want to see it again at a later date. There is something very relaxing about watching TV in bed but even better with your iPad with your WIFI connection. If you have a slower connection, you can always turn the high quality playback off and stream a lesser quality but still watchable version.
