Nine times out of ten, when you first start your Fitness Schedule, it begins on a high note and you’re just so excited to reach your goals that getting up at the crack of dawn is easy. Like anything "shiny and new" it doesn’t require much motivation to continue!
Slowly but surely that shiny new object gets rusty and before you know it, you’re hitting the snooze button 3-4x times, missing your golden opportunity to workout. You start telling yourself you’ll start back up the following Monday and before long you’re back at square one buying clothes to hide your body.
Need some tips? Here are three top signs that your Fitness Routine is not working for you.
1. Your workout is booooringggg.
Working out on the treadmill use to be fun. But now you watch every minute that ticks by. I find a new playlist on the iPod is a good way to stay motivated. Or change it up. Do intervals or hills. Walk outside if the weather is nice. You can also try convincing a friend to join you. Last but not least, leave the treadmill and opt for the bike, elliptical – something new and gives you that "shiny new" feeling again!
2. Not getting results
If you’re not getting results anymore it can be frustrating and downright demotivating. This is a sure fire sign that you need to change your workout as you’ve reached a plateau. If you’re not changing your workout up every 3-6 weeks you’re not going to get any more results. So make sure you do something different – lift heavier, do more intervals, hills, different reps. Drastic changes will definitely give you quicker results.
3. Your Fitness Schedule leaves you sore and tired.
If you find that with each workout you’re feeling more sore and tired than before working out, it’s a good possibility you’re overtraining your body. Rest is a crucial part of attaining results. Without proper rest, your muscles can’t repair themselves. Overtraining has a high tendency of leading to injury as well. So slow it down. Train 2 days, 1 day of rest, train 2 days, one day of rest etc…
Changing your Fitness routine on a regular basis is a key way to keep up your motivation and get those results you dream of even faster. It’s a win-win situation!
