If you are a member of a fitness club, you will probably know that most of these clubs offer different classes that are free for members to attend. If you have ever considered joining a class at your fitness club, here is a guide to what to expect from some of the most common offerings.
Yoga
Yoga is an ancient art that involved focused breathing, stretching, and the holding of special poses or "asanas." It can help improve flexibility, strength, circulation, and posture. When you attend a yoga class, be sure to wear comfortable that stretches so that you can easily move your body into the different poses. You can also bring your own mat, but oftentimes your fitness club will supply them. When you are trying yoga for the first time, listen to the instructor carefully as they tell you the proper position for each pose. If you are unsure you can ask them for help. Remember to stay quiet and calm, as a yoga class is meant to be a relaxing and tranquil atmosphere.
Aqua Aerobics
This is a type of cardiovascular exercise which takes place in a swimming pool. You will be participating in a series of exercises with your body partially or completely submerged in the water, which provides more resistance than air and gives you a more challenging workout. Oftentimes you will be using floating weights, belts, or other equipment to enhance your workout. The instructor often stands on the edge of the pool so that you can see their movements clearly. Aqua Aerobics is a great exercise for people with joint problems, as the underwater movements have less impact on the joints as other exercises such as running.
Boot Camp
Your fitness club might have some version of a "boot camp" or hardcore training class. These types of fitness classes are modelled after the strenuous training that military personnel must undergo, and they are designed to make you push yourself further and achieve your fitness goals. Your fitness club might offer different types of "boot camps" such as a "booty camp" which focuses on creating buns of steel or a boot camp geared towards a specific sport.
Pilates
This system of exercises was developed by Joseph Pilates in Germany in the early 20th century, and its aim is to improve physical strength, posture, flexibility, core muscles, and mental awareness. Pilates focuses on the deep, internal muscles of the abdomen and back, which are important for supporting the spine and helping the body move. Pilates is a common treatment for people who suffer from back pain. This type of workout can be great for improving your posture and getting a tight, sexy stomach.
These are just a few of the many classes offered at the average fitness club. Go ahead and give them a try, and if you are confused about something don't be afraid to ask the staff for help, that is what they are there for.
