This may sound like blasphemy to some, but you can't lie on a beach for your entire vacation in Mexico! Walking in the surf and lounging in the warm sun is great for a day or two, right after arriving. Then boredom begins to set in, at least for some people - like those who crave discovery, intrigue and exploration! That is when its time to head for one of the many adventure parks in the Riviera Maya. Let's take a look at one located just south of Cancun, Hidden Worlds Family Cenote Adventure Park.

One of the most popular activities at Hidden Worlds is the Avatar Roller Coaster Zip Line. Imagine being on a roller coaster set in the midst of a Mexican rainforest, but instead of being strapped in a car, you are in a safety harness and helmet attached to a zip line! Some like to call it "the Naked Roller Coaster" because the speed, twists and turns are like that of an amusement park roller coaster. Gravity pulls you along the zip line at break-neck speeds, and just as you feel as though you will fall - the harness catches you! To make matters even more adrenaline-pumping, the zip line twists and turns over again suddenly dropping you into a water slide sending you into a spectacular cenote. This is definitely not a ride for the faint of heart, but it sure is an unforgettable experience!

If the cenote intrigues you, but the speeds of the zip line make you cringe, then check out the Cenote Rappel experience. Specially trained guides strap you into a rock climbing harness and gently teach the art of rappelling. Then, when everyone is comfortable it is time to head to the Takbelum Cenote. Featured in the Imax film Journey into Amazing Caves, National Geographic has featured Takbelum as one of the most incredible natural caves in the world. Your guide will safely tour you through a free rappel (meaning a descent free of obstructions, not free of cost) of the more than 5 million year old cenote.

Of course, the Hidden World Adventure Park specialty is Cenote Diving and Snorkeling. The entire Riviera Maya is peppered with world famous cenotes, but the ones at Hidden Worlds are the most highly rated by National Geographic. To illustrate their magnificence, consider some of their given names: The Church, The Bat Cave, Halario's Well. Cavern diving is for the experienced and certified diver, but for those relatively new to the sport there are other water activities. Such as the Cenote Splash Down, in which visitors ride a zip line directly down into Takbelum cenote. Or, for the less adventurous, there are guided snorkel tours along smaller and more ornate cenotes.

Marine adventure is definitely not hard to find on the Riviera Maya. Delicate ecosystems abound, cenotes are everywhere and the water is always a warm azure blue. Spend a day or two on the beach, then get the blood pumping with some Mexican adventure!
