Solar Flares

By: Lance Winslow

Published: September 19, 2007

Typically we have solar cycles, which are predictable, they let us know when we can expect the most solar activity in the way of solar flares. Solar flares cause changes in our atmosphere and heat up our airflows and sea surface temperatures. They can cause you to have skin burns in excess of what is typical when sun bathing. They can be very dangerous to astronauts and pilots flying at altitudes where the air is thinner.

Recently weather forecasters have seen moderate and extreme solar flares causing geomagnetic storms, which have been affecting our weather. Sunspot 798 is quite strong and one of the most powerful since we have been measuring them. Sunspots release energy, some cause radio disruption, satellite failures and god forbid can make your cell phone drop a call; can you here me now? Yes, it is serious, they can also cause increased Hurricane Activities, some say earthquakes, although that has not yet been proven? If your SUV’s GPS is acting up, now you know why?

So far there have been seven major solar flares including an X-17, which is one of the largest ever recorded. What is really strange about this is the 22 year cycle predicts 11 years of activity followed by 11 years of very very low activity from our sun, unfortunately, we are suppose to be in a low activity time, not record breaking solar flares. So something is terribly wrong with the Solar Cycle Theory or something is a miss with our Sun? Think on this, as it effects us all.
